This letter is a recent example of how Bernie Sanders helps working people
Michel Guite, CEO
Vermont Telephone Company
354 River Street
Springfield, VT 05156
Dear Mr. Guite:
It has come to my attention that the internet support technicians of Vermont Telephone Company voted to unionize more than a year and a half ago, and that negotiations for a first contract started some eight months ago. I understand further that while there have been a number of negotiation sessions, there is no agreement in sight.
I have been informed that the company will not entertain negotiating a wage agreement in the contact negotiations. I also understand that a unionized worker is being threatened with a layoff, eventhough the internet business for Vermont Telephone Company is increasing.
My experience has been that reaching agreement on a contract can go a long ways towards improving recruitment and retention of employees as well as create a constructive mechanism for employees and management to resolve differences in the future.
I would hope that the management bargaining team is able to move quickly towards resolving the significant differences that exist between the two sides proposals.
I support your employees right to have a fair contract. I urge you, as the CEO of Vermont Telephone Company, to take what steps you can to see that a fair contract is negotiated as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Bernie Sanders
United States Congressman
