Hydrate your body well
Long exposure to the sun can dehydrate your body, so make sure you drink plenty of water while you are tanning. It is also advisable to cool your body now and then for which you can either get into the water if you are on the beach or at the swimming pool. Otherwise, you can get away from the sun and into the shade for a while.
